Budget cuts across the country are leaving schools short on resources and overflowing on class sizes.
The latest survey from the American Association of School Administrators found that 57% of K-12 school leaders will delay needed technology purchases for the 2010-2011 school year. Half of school leaders will also eliminate or delay instructional improvement programs. 62% of school leaders plan to increase class sizes next year.
The Associated Press recently reported that libraries are fading as administrators are forced to cut back on staff because of the school budget crisis.
In our effort to help even if only in some small way, we are offering a significant discount on exit signs for education institutions. Public or private schools, colleges, and universities are eligible for the program, which will offer a free LED exit sign for every three signs purchased by an education institution. It is our hope that the program will help schools make necessary safety updates and set themselves up to save money in the future through highly-efficient LED lighting. Check out our recent blog post on the many cost-saving benefits of LED exit signs.
If you know anyone in an administrative position at a school, spread the word! We want to offer this program to as many schools as possible.
*If you are eligible, make sure to call our toll-free number, 800.392.4818, to place your order for the discount. This offer is not available for online orders. To view the products available, visit our LED exit signs page.

We are excited to announce that our recent donation to Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, Inc. (TROSA) is helping them complete their newest housing project in Durham, NC!
TROSA is a two-year, comprehensive residential substance abuse recovery program. It is a non-profit organization, and provides all care, food, clothing, and housing to its 375 residents free of charge for the duration of the program. Providing housing for 375 residents is certainly a challenge. TROSA is currently undertaking a major expansion of its campus to fulfill needs.
We offered to provide recessed lighting for their project on Elizabeth Street in Durham, NC. The house, which was originally built in the 1920’s, has been undergoing major renovations for the past two years. After the refurbishments are finally complete, seventeen residents will live in the house.
We donated eighteen recessed shower trims and housings for the house’s four bathrooms, and the project is now expected to be complete within the next few weeks!
To find out more about the organization or to make a donation, visit the TROSA website. To find out more about the Elizabeth Street project, check out our press release.

We are excited to announce that Tom Farin, our founder and president, has just been elected to the Board of Managers for the Raleigh section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Tom has been a member of IESNA since 1993 and was involved in the Pittsburgh section as an officer and board member before he moved to North Carolina.
The IESNA is an organization of lighting industry professionals with a mission “to advance knowledge and to disseminate information for the improvement of the lighted environment to the benefit of society”. Tom was selected from a group of nominees slated for the position and he will serve as a board member for at least a year.
Pegasus Lighting has been a Sustaining Member of the IESNA since February of this year. By becoming a Sustaining Member, we now help further lighting research, education projects, and other endeavors designed to communicate all aspects of good lighting practices to lighting professionals and consumers.

As many of you know we are in the process of redesigning our website for a hopeful Summer 2010 launch. We want to get as much feedback as possible on the new design so that we make sure it is as good as it can be. Thus, during March we had a contest where two random winners would receive a $150 Pegasus Lighting gift certificate and ten other random winners would receive a free LED battery operated puck light, just for providing us with their feedback and suggestions.
We said that the winners would be announced April 2, 2010. So, without further ado, allow me to announce our contest winners:
