This is the third blog post of my New Home Project post series. This series of posts details the lighting projects that I have undertaken in my new home. My first post reviewed the installation of our under cabinet lighting and my second post covered the use of microfluorescent T4 fixtures as pantry and closet lighting. This post will also talk about microfluorescent T4 fixtures, but this time using them as over cabinet lighting in my kitchen.
While my house was under construction, I had the electricians install electrical outlets on either side of my kitchen directly above my cabinets. These outlets are controlled by a single wall switch. Once we moved into our home, I measured the total length of the cabinets where I could place the microfluorescent fixtures.

As many of you know we are in the process of redesigning our website for a hopeful Summer 2010 launch. We want to get as much feedback as possible on the new design so that we make sure it is as good as it can be. Thus, during March we had a contest where two random winners would receive a $150 Pegasus Lighting gift certificate and ten other random winners would receive a free LED battery operated puck light, just for providing us with their feedback and suggestions.
We said that the winners would be announced April 2, 2010. So, without further ado, allow me to announce our contest winners:

A couple of months ago I wrote my first blog post for my New Home Project post series. This post series is about the lighting projects I have undertaken in my new home. That first post was about the installation of our kitchen under cabinet lighting. I had hoped to make these posts a little more frequent, but you know how that goes…time gets away from you. Either way, I am finally writing my second post for this series and it is about using Microfluorescent T4 fixtures as pantry and closet lighting.
As a I stated in my previous post, some of my lighting projects I did myself, and others I had professional electricians perform. Adding my pantry and closet lighting was a mix of both. During the construction of my new home I had the electricians install electrical outlets that were controlled by a light switch in our two kitchen pantries. One of these pantries was in the kitchen, and the other was actually a coat closet beneath our stairs close to our kitchen that we had the builder convert into a pantry (we call this our “big pantry”). I had these electrical outlets included so that once we moved into the house I could easily install Microfluorescent T4 fixtures around and above the interior door frames of each pantry. The Microfluorescent T4 fixtures come with a cord and plug and you can also purchase flexible linking cables to link two or more fixtures together, which is what I did. Why did I choose these fixtures? I think this customer comment says it all…
The T4 is sleek, compact, easy to install and provides a generous amount of light in a very small footprint.
UPDATE: Post your feedback and comments at the bottom of this post on at least two of our new page designs and enter to win one of two free $150 Pegasus Lighting gift certificates (you could also win one of ten battery operated LED puck lights). This contest ends March 31, 2010. Click here for additional details.
This year promises to be an exciting one for Pegasus Associates Lighting and our customers. In our constant effort to provide you with an excellent user experience and a website that is a “learning experience in lighting,” we are redesigning our website and adding many new features. The goal? A sleeker design that is easier to navigate and read, additional features to help you find the right lighting product for your project, and a smoother product purchasing process.
While we are still finalizing the details, we want your feedback. We’ve prepared a page on our website for you to visit to view all of our new pages and compare to the current site. Please share any comments you have by commenting below in this blog post. By telling us what you like (and don’t like) about the new site, we will be able to tailor it to provide the best possible user experience for you.
At this time our new pages are static representations of what the new website will look like. They are not fully functional web pages yet. However, once we do have a portion of our new website built we will make an announcement in our blog, our Facebook fan page, and our Twitter account, and you will be able to check out the beta version of the new site.

In April 2009 the Pegasus Associates Lighting Forum went live on our website. To help garner interest in the forum and to entice people to join, we offered free gifts to new members and had a monthly drawing for a $50 Pegasus Associates Lighting gift certificate for the entire year. Since the forum went live we have 74 members and a total of 174 posts. During the year we had members share their lighting projects, help us by reviewing a new LED product that we were thinking of selling, and, of course, asking their lighting questions.
Now it is time to announce our newest, and final, monthly $50 gift certificate winner. This month our winner is forum member scyce. Scyce joined our forum in July and used the forum to post a question about adding recessed lighting in a basement that he was finishing.
The Pegasus Associates Lighting Forum is an online lighting community with a primary focus on helping answer our website visitor’s lighting questions. Answers may come from one of our technical customer service representatives monitoring our lighting forum, our company president, or another forum member. In addition, our forum is also a place to allow people to share their lighting projects (including images), post lighting articles, and to provide feedback on our products or website.

Low voltage lighting is not new. According to Popular Mechanics magazine, “Low voltage outdoor lighting got its start in the early 1950s when Bill Locklin, an electrical contractor in Redlands, Calif., was asked by a client to put up some outdoor lights.” It took a few decades for homeowners to catch on and take advantage of all the benefits that low voltage lighting has to offer. Nowadays, homeowners installing outdoor landscape lighting often choose low voltage lighting fixtures.
But what about low voltage indoor lighting? Almost 60 years after Bill Locklin’s innovation, low voltage indoor lighting has finally become mainstream. There are several reasons why low voltage lighting has become more popular. Better quality fixtures, long-lasting bulbs and easier installation methods are just a few of the reasons. Further, many Americans are more aware of the importance of energy conservation and the savings that result from using low voltage fixtures and energy-saving light bulbs. Low voltage lighting fixtures, and the bulbs that are used with them, provide a higher quality light. Low voltage lights have also become more versatile than in the past. There are many low voltage design options. Some popular fixture types include track lighting, under cabinet lighting and hanging pendants.

Our most recent post asked a question about which type of dimmer needs to be used for a 150-watt electronic transformer powering under cabinet puck lighting. The best type of dimmer to use is an electronic low voltage dimmer. If a regular line voltage dimmer is used it may shorten the life of the transformer, cause a slight humming from the transformer, and reduce the range of dimmability.

Last September one of our manufacturers offered a $3 instant manufacturer rebate on their wireless LED battery-operated lights. Well, that promotion turned out to be quite popular. As a result, I got another phone call from that same manufacturer just the other day. “Let’s do it again!”, they said.
Starting today, continuing through Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and ending on Friday, December 4, 2009, six of some of our most popular LED battery-operated light fixtures have been reduced in price by $3 once again. Since this is an instant manufacturer rebate, there is nothing that you, the customer, have to do to receive this rebate. The rebate is applied once the product is added to your shopping cart.
Give your friends and family a gift of light with LED lighting that:
- Includes a bright white LED
- Mounts anywhere
- Lights up automatically when motion is detected
- Turns on only in darkness
- Automatically shuts off after 30 seconds
- Can be used indoors or outdoors
- Provides easy safety and security lighting
- And, may even be remote-controlled.
The Black Friday / Cyber Monday instant manufacturer rebate applies to the following products:
Recently, my family and I moved into a new home. We had lived in our previous home for more than seven years (loving every minute in our old house). But we were starting to get just a little cramped as our family had grown from just the two of us to now the four of us. While packing and moving is no fun at all, I was looking forward to the new house because I had some big plans for our lighting. I mean, hey, I do work for a lighting company.
Over the next couple of blog posts, I am going to share the lighting projects that I have tackled in our new home (including pics). Some projects I did and others I had professional electricians perform. My first new home project was adding under cabinet lighting. I had under cabinet lighting installed in our previous home and there was just no way I was not going to have my under cabinet lighting. I literally cannot live without them. We have a favorite saying in our household when we talk about something we want or like. We say, “It’s a quality of life issue.” Well, under cabinet lighting is a “quality of life issue for me.”
